Pioneering Innovation for the Discerning Musician
This is another one of those gems that came from the Mojohound Inbox. We had a request from the Robert Ellis camp, we did a little bartering (gear for music) and we feel like we came out on top on this deal because we discovered one hell of a songsmith. “Up and coming” doesn’t do this cat justice. This Houston native has put in the time, he’s taken the ride on the merry-go-round, he’s played the stages and he’s as well seasoned as a bite of the best Texas BBQ. He may not play on our gear as often as his CD plays around here (That would be a tough ask since he’s coming through the speakers nearly every week), but we’re incredibly honored to know that he has used some of the Mojohound Music Co. arsenal in his music making endeavors.
…. Be on the lookout for his latest album. And if Robert lands anywhere near you, you owe it to yourself to check him out.Read More
We’re going to start off by thanking two incredibly awesome guys. Scott F.M. is truly a genuine gentleman and contains within him a plethora of knowledge about all things music, especially stringed instruments. This guy is where it’s at and he resides at arguably one of the greatest, most legendary music stores in Nashville (Corner Music) Eric Dahl is the Regional Promotion Supervisor for FOX 17 in Nashville, TN. Eric has been such an upstanding guy. He checks in with us regularly to see how things are going and to wish us well. He’s taken it upon himself to provide the fine folks of Nashville with the “Rock & Review” segments on the news. Eric keeps up with all the latest and greatest gadgetry and artists flowing in and around the music scene and we think he does a damn fine job! Eric got a hold of us a while back and wanted to feature some Mojohound Music Co. products on the show. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with him. He brought Scott into the studio to talk a bit about the products and generally do a brief overview of the Mojohound products that Corner Music carries. Both are outstanding, professional gentlemen and we here at Mojohound wish them all the best!Read More
Well it’s been quite a while since we’ve done much in the way of updating the old website, but we thought we would lay a little news on you this Sunday evening..
Several months ago we had the distinct pleasure of receiving a phone call from some pretty far out guys up at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in NYC. It was the music supervisor (Keith McPhee) for the Late Nights With Jimmy Fallon Show! Apparently Jimmy was having an actor by the name of Tom Hanks on the show, who in addition to being one of the greatest actors of our time is also a musician. Jimmy wanted to get one of our MDM-I stompboxes for himself and one to give to Mr. Hanks as a gift. We were thrilled and honored to accommodate this request … Okay, so that’s maybe a bit of an understatement… We ran around like a bunch of giddy little school girls all the way to the post office!!
We had the distinct pleasure of catching up with the guys in Ha Ha Tonka before their show @The Kitchen Pass in Joplin, MO (7/6/2012) and wow, what a great group of genuinely good guys! It was made clear after hearing the first few bars of the very first song that HHT is a serious powerhouse of musical talent. They’ve played in 48 states, released 3 incredible albums, played Wakarusa, Lollapalooza, SXSW, Sundance Film Festival, CMJ, appeared on MTV and recently on an episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on the Travel Channel - you really owe it to yourself to check these guys out! And luckily for you, Ha Ha Tonka is currently on tour, and with 35+ shows in 25+ states before the end of summer you have no excuse not to catch this amazing band! Check out their tour schedule HERE.
“A couple of rootsy, passionate, scruffy groups such as Mumford & Sons did their thing at the Grammy Awards this year, exposing their music to a relatively vast audience in one fell swoop. Mumford’s music is fine, but it’s a shame that Ha Ha Tonka couldn’t have taken that group’s spot. The Missouri quartet is not only authentically scruffy, it tears at the heart of American roots music with every chord like Mumford only pretends to, and its new record, Death of a Decade, basically oozes passion for the craft.” –Washington Post, Patrick Foster, 4/4/11Read More
Charlie Worsham is an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist. (see our Featured Artists page to get the full scoop on Charlie) Once in a while Charlie will put out a ‘Cover Challenge’ video. The songs that he covers are usually voted on by his fans through Twitter and Facebook. The rules are as follows: 1.) Play all instruments 2.) Work alone 3.) Complete in 24 hours. The takes that Charlie does on these songs (Rootsy, Bluesy, Folk) are amazing! Be sure to check out all of his Cover Challenge videos here. Charlie found a pretty nifty use for one of the MHM-AP1 Universal Acoustic Pickups in this one!
The Los Angeles based band “May Stands Still” is a warm and welcome sound to weary and wanting ears. The group consists of Emily Herndon whose sweet voice, powerful lyrics and eloquent guitar playing drive the dynamic relationship between the spirit that moves and the soul that listens, and classically trained (at Berklee College of Music) multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Asha Sukumar whose creative talent was observed and harbored since the age of three. Throughout her formative years Asha continued to garner a great deal of musical experience in a myriad of styles; Western Classical music, vocal training in classical South Indian, jazz, pop and R&B and participated in the renowned California Youth Symphony for seven years. We highly recommend that you give them a listen! (To get the full scoop on May Stands Still head over to our Featured Artists page.)Read More
